Hard Core Decoys

Hard Core Decoys
About The Decoys

Hard Core Decoys are the result of thousands of hours of research and testing over many years. We began working on taxidermy decoys, commonly called "stuffers", several years ago. In time we began to look for a realistic and durable alternative to the fragile mounted geese. We began applying custom airbrushed finishes to existing full-body goose decoys in 1999 and found a great demand from our fellow hunters for this service. However, due to the limitations of mass-produced decoys, especially the minimal selection of head positions, we decided to look for a better solution.

Product Detail

The decision to make our own custom decoys came in February 2002. We carefully created a full body goose sculpture of clay, and a mold was made of it. In March 2002, the first Hard Core Decoy came out of the mold. Within hours, it was on display in Bill Saunder's booth at the Boise Sportsman's Show drawing rave reviews from all who gathered there to see it. Soon, photos of the prototype were on the Internet and we got a very positive reaction from all across the country and Canada.

For maximum realism, the head and neck of all Canada and Lesser Canada decoys are coated in a fibrous flocking compound so that the final product looks nearly identical to the fine feathers on the neck of a goose. As nearly all the steps in the process, this too is done carefully by hand.

The rest of the decoy body is painted by hand with an airbrush. Each feather is painted individually to duplicate exactly the fine details of a goose's coloration. The paints used have been selected to provide as much durability as possible so that the decoys will stay in good condition throughout their life. We still recommend transporting and storing the decoys in friction-reducing bags to preserve the paint and keep them clean.
